The Drakensberg is one of South Africa's unique and rather special mountain escarpments. Also known by the Zulus as uKhahlamba, The Barrier of Spears, this UNESCO World Heritage site is made up of vast cliffs, jagged ridge lines and endless pinnacles.

The Nest Drakensberg Hotel in Winterton in the Champagne Valley, right on the foothills of the Drakensberg overlooking the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site, launched three exciting mountain bike trails in 2017.

Ranging from a mild 8km meander in the Champagne Valley to a killer 20km drift a 'Dragon Peaks', this adventure playground has something on offer for every kind of adventurer. 

Want to go? Here's what you need to know 

Route 1 - Paisley, Peakview, Heartsease – 8km

Route 2 - Mountain Splendour link to Dragon Peaks and two combos at Dragon Peaks – 20km

Route 3 - Cedarwood to Bell Park 12km

There is no cost involved, you can just report to The Nest Drakensberg Hotel in Winterton before you go. 

Bikes can be hired from Mountain Splendour if you do not have your own bike.

The Nest Drakensberg Hotel requests trail users to have the MySOS app downloaded on a device on hand before using the trails. This is to ensure the safety and security of all guests using the trails.
