Refresh in the best that KZN nature has to offer

Unwind with the Big 5 or explore the majestic tree canopies in KZN's Zululand for your next nature-inspired escape

If there’s anything we’ve found a renewed love for these past 18 months, it’s the simple pleasures of being surrounded by nature, wildlife, and fresh air. One of the most tranquil places to hit reset, and reconnect with nature in all its glory is the tranquil Zululand region of KZN.

Rich in wildlife reserves, thriving forests, sugar cane fields, and Zulu culture - the region offers up a versatile range of nature-fuelled activities for visitors to enjoy. Zululand has small-town rural charm to it and is a welcomed refresher from the more city-like destinations in the province. You’ll also find traditional Zulu homesteads where you can get a guide to take you through the culture, the vibrant history of the land, and the significance of nature in Zulu culture.

Get a closer look at some of the highlights known to the region below:

Explore Zulu culture and the historic significance of traditional and natural healing

Most of the medicines we know today often pull and draw inspiration from traditional medicinal plants. In Zulu culture, traditional healing has historically played a big role in keeping the Zulu people healthy, strong, and protected against disease or illness. A visit to one of the traditional Zulu homesteads around the region will allow you to get a glimpse into the past and learn about the harmony that nature and medicinal plants played in the local rural lifestyle. You can visit a traditional healer to learn about this while also getting to sample authentic Zulu cuisine and Nqombothi (Zulu beer) at these homesteads.

Explore the vast treetop canopies in the Dlinza Forest

Soak up the ethereal splendour of sunlight leaking through the plush treetop canopies in Dlinza Forest by taking a leisurely stroll along the aerial boardwalk.
