Meandering the Midlands
KZN's ultimate craft, beer, and foodie hub
Calling all craft-lovers and foodies - the Midlands is waiting for you. This tranquil region of farmlands is a hub of unique craft-works, artisanal beer, and authentic fine dining experiences. The Midlands Meander route stretches from the vibrant foothills of the Drakensberg region to the bustling cityscape of Pietermaritzburg and features a wide range of activities and places to explore.
In Howick, you'll stumble across craft markets that feature local artists and offers a platform for up-and-coming crafters in the region. Alson Zuma, a descendant of the San people from the region, is one of the new artists on the scene. Zuma is bringing the beauty of ancient San rock art into the modern age with his flat stone paintings and intricate wood carving designs.
You can spend the day visiting the tucked-away gems that branch off of a leafy dirt road called Curry's Post road like Ground Cover Leather Company and the decadent and cosy Tumble Downs Restaurant. A short drive further you will uncovering the craft brewery scene of the Midlands at Notties Brewery. They provide beers to local bars and restaurants like Bierfassl - an ideal spot to unwind after a busy day meandering.
