Steeped in the rich history of Zulu warriors, the Battlefields as its namesake implies was home to the many battlefield sites that were significant in the Anglo-Zulu war that took place in the Saffa heat of 1879. A visit to the battle sites of Rorke’s Drift or Isandlwana transports you back to the scene of the fights with the whitewashed rock formations and monuments that marked significant spots on the grounds.

Re-enact the great battle with your mates

What better way to immerse yourself in the history of the region than by joining for the numerous re-enactments of the famous battles that take place annually. Locals dress up in bright red to represent a colonial British soldier or in traditional Zulu warrior attire and you can come to enjoy the show, the food, music, and other activities that are set up around these events.

Go on a horseback tour

And to further immerse yourself into the rolling hills and natural landscape, the region offers guided horseback tours through the different battlefields. This offers you an authentic feel and experience for what roaming the lands were like in the era of the Anglo-Zulu war, especially with the guide’s visceral story-telling abilities to take you back in time.

Wind down in the wild with some game and bird viewing
