From rural beginnings in the North-West village of Cyferskuil, Josephine Ramolobeng, who goes by Josi for short, is driven by a pursuit of nurturing truth. After completing her schooling in her home village, she set out with a clear intent in mind to make a positive impact in her own community as a nurse.

“I studied in Gauteng and went back again home to work in a private Catholic hospital there,” Josi shares.

Today, Josi is a mom of two boys, an 18-year-old and a busy three-year-old toddler, who likes to spend her free time taking walks in nature, immersing herself into the fictional world of a book, and staying clued up on what’s happening in the world around her with News24.

“The news keeps me clued up and inquisitive at all times,” she explains.

Josi is one of over 85,000 subscribers who have partnered with News24 as it seeks to bring quality, trusted journalism to South Africa. In this series I Am News24, we get to know some of our loyal subscribers and celebrate them and their shared love of the news.

Joined by the indomitable News24 Deputy Politics Editor, Bongekile Macupe, Josi shared why she puts her trust in News24 to be the source to keep her in the loop with updates locally and abroad.

“I’ve been a loyal subscriber since May or April,” recalls Josi. “That’s when I started because I know that some of the news is locked, and you cannot access them until you are a subscriber. But I’m happy and content with the news and the overall... storytelling.”

As for why Josi finds it important to keep abreast of news updates, her reasoning was simple – it keeps us clued up, vigilant, and safe.

“You’re always vigilant and safe on what is happening around us and around the country. If maybe there’s a storm or flood coming, or there’s a fire of those bomb threats – then you’re ready to vacate,” Josi shares.

When Bongekile asked Josi what she’d hope to see more on the News24 platform, she said there’s little to nothing she’d change.

Josi praised the journalists for always pushing the envelope and putting themselves in risky situations to cover news stories and bring breaking news to the forefront of our feeds while shining a spotlight on every community.

“I’m content because the coverage is worldwide, countrywide. They go in deeper rural [areas], so there’s no area that you don’t seem in,” Josi fondly shares.

“Sometimes I ask myself, ‘How do these people manage in such [situations]? There’s rifles, there’s guns, there’s fires – and how do they always keep themselves protected?’”

It’s this unwavering bravado and dedication to unpacking the truths of our society that makes Josi proud to support and pay for her news. As she believes that News24 journalists are consistently producing credible work and news that is accurate and diverse in its coverage in various communities across the nation.

“I love supporting them,” beams Josi. “There’s no place they don’t swim in – whether there’s bullets, fires, or in dangerous places. So, we should be grateful to such journalism reports.”

“The news keeps me informed with what is happening around me, around the community, around our country, and around the world at large,” explains Josi.
