Bombay Sapphire is on a journey to stir your creativity and activate your senses by teaming up with five South African creators to inspire everyone to find the creative inspiration in the world around us in the latest edtion of the #SawThisMadeThis campaign.
Whether it's the smell of freshly cut grass or the feel of silk running through your hands, your five senses provide you with unique information about yourself and the world around you.
The five senses also help stimulate your creativity and activate parts of your brain that tend to be neglected.
Bombay Sapphire is on a journey to stir your creativity and activate your senses through culinary innovations captivating, artworks, coastal foraging adventures, fashion statements, and musical marvels. This campaign breaks conventional boundaries, urging individuals to rediscover the beauty and creativity in their everyday surroundings.
This groundbreaking campaign, initiated last year in New York and London, is a testament to the dynamic partnership between Bombay Sapphire and visionary filmmaker Baz Luhrmann – inspiring people to tap into the creativity around them.
The local video series will takes us through a symphony of sensory delights featuring the works of interior designer Keneilwe Motha, wild food artist Roushanna Gray, illustrator Yay Abe, chef Karen Dudley and recording artist Ami Faku.
In each of the videos, the creators will take on the five senses while telling the stories of their creativity. From there our mixologists craft one-of-a-kind Bombay Sapphire cocktails inspired by their work and one of the senses.
Sound
The series kicks off with a harmonious collaboration between Johannesburg's cocktail connoisseur Dumisani Ndlovu and singer-songwriter Ami Faku. Delve into the intersection of music and mixology as Ami Recreates one of her most loved hits from which Ndlovu takes inspiratoion to create “The Vinyl”, a cocktail which infuses the tobacco ash aroma of the Martini Bianco and the sweetness of apple crumble syrup.
Sight
Next illustrator Yay Abe and Bacardi Brand Ambassador Roxanne Rock take on the vibrant streets of Cape Town, drawing inspiration from a streets of Sea Point and Camps Bay reimagine the beach umbrella and create “The Lighthouse”, a cocktail by the iconic landmark that tantalizes the senses.
Touch
From there viewers will be transported into the world of texture and flavour with Keneilwe Motha, founder of Neimil, and mixologist Thabang Mokono. The pair craft “Blossom Breeze”, a masterpiece cocktail that blends the tactile and the gustatory in a mesmerizing display of ingenuity and a cooler bag to match.
Taste
The series continues with a culinary adventure led by South African chef, food writer, and restaurateur Karen Dudley, alongside bartender Greg Grant Paterson. The duo looks at how to infuse creativity into their culinary concepts, using fresh ingredients and unique flavours to elevate the dining experience. Their “Green Serenity” cocktail features Kale from Karen’s garden, adorned with an origami garnish to accompany the fresh summer salad created by Karen.
Smell
The series wraps up with the soothing scents of the sea as Roushanna Gray, founder of Veld and Sea, and Bombay Sapphire Trade Ambassador Nkuli Khanyile draw inspiration from marine flora and tidal pool wildlife. Their drink, “Millers Mist”, features Nori-infused Martini Extra Dry and leafy garnish set against Roushanna’s sea side inspired tablescape.
