The free apps that could save your life

These free apps can help keep you safe wherever you are. Our world isn’t as safe as it used to be and our safety is always a priority, especially when you find yourself in places you aren’t familiar with.

Do you constantly get phone calls and messages from concerned family and friends?

These safety apps will allow your family and friends to check if you’re okay and give them the ability to help you if you find yourself in the middle of a sticky situation.

1.    bSafe

bSafe, which was invested in by Jada Pinkett Smith has four safety options: Follow Me, Fake Call, I’m Here and Timer. Follow Me allows a friend to follow you on your journey home via call or through the app, so they are with you and can follow your progress home.

If you are in a tight situation and would like to get out of it, you can fake a call to yourself and all you have to do is insert a time for when you’d like to receive the call. I’m Here sends your location to all your friends with the press of a button.

Timer allows you to set a countdown time to your phone and if you don’t switch it off before the selected time, it will immediately send a SOS message and video clip to your friends.

2.    Life360

This app allows you to monitor where your family and friends are by developing a “Circle”. You receive real-time alerts to when your Circle members arrive or leave a certain destination. You can also track stolen or lost phones, however in order to do this you need to be a premium member.

4.    Circle of 6

This simple app won the White House/ HHS Apps Against Abuse Technology Challenge. It allows you to choose a maximum of six friends or family members that live close to you, and if you need any help with getting home, you can send a message in your circle for someone to come and get you along with a Google Map location.

There are two options you can select: if you’re lost, or if you’re in need of an interruption. It also gives relationship advice and gives you emergency numbers by a click of a button.

5.    Momentum Panic Button

As part of their coverage, Momentum has included a new emergency alert system into their app - their 'Don't Panic Button'.

It's a safety alert button that allows you to call for help when your own personal safety, or someone else’s safety is threatened with just a tap on your screen.
