Here's why this commercial architect uses his Mac to make magic
Designing the worlds we live in is no small feat, and architects need a device that can help bring their grand visions to life efficiently. Candidate architect Yoshlan Mudaly shares why he puts his faith in the pristine and speedy MacBook Pro M2.
Architects are the visionaries who help design the societies and worlds we live in. And with that great responsibility comes a greater need for a way to efficiently plan on a device that can keep up and bring their grand design dreams to life.
Designing from the heart of the Mother City, candidate architect at Vivid Architects, Yoshlan Mudaly, shares why he puts his trust in the fast and proficient MacBook Pro M2 to help make his plans a literal reality. Whether he’s designing an office, apartment block, hotel, safari lodge or retail development, Yoshlan finds that this device holds the magic to make the building shine at its brightest.
Teched out and powered by Apple’s revolutionary next-generation silicon chip – the MacBook Pro M2 can handle the most intense processing demands with ease and a cool body. This comes in handy for Yoshlan who uses a specialist visualisation app called Twinmotion, which brings his CAD drawings to vivid life and helps create walk-through experiences with the finest detail.
“I run it on the highest software settings, in ultra resolution,” says Yoshlan.
“I really sense that material is real. Even when you're doing timber flooring, you can see the grain when you're rendering. It's one of the most enriching things.”
Carrying an Honours and Master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Pretoria, Yoshlan is impressed by how seamless and efficient his workflow is in the Apple ecosystem.
His colleague at Vivid Architects, Rese Boshoff, also works within the Apple ecosystem. Using an iPad to trace and mark up her initial designs, Rese then moves it over to the MacBook Pro M2 to handle the heavy rendering process with ease.
With the mobility required of architects, the MacBook’s portability and all-day battery life are bonuses to working on-the-go and on-site. Yoshlan is able to carry on imagining, visualising, and fine-tuning his designs wherever a project may take him.
“The collaboration between what happens in the office and what happens on-site really amplifies what we as architects need,” says Yoshlan.
“The MacBook Pro M2 really does the job for us. It makes the day go a lot faster and it makes your productivity higher.”
The early stages of the lockdown are what initially sparked Yoshlan’s connection with the MacBook as he started using it for remote work. Off the bat, he was wowed by the speed of the machine.
“I really enjoy the fact that when you open the MacBook, it just opens up,” he says. “It doesn't take booting time like other different brands.”
Aside from the speed, power, display, and readiness for the demands of Yoshlan’s highly disciplined workday, “you know, using a MacBook is just fun,” he says.
“It makes me feel like a kid in a candy store.”
