A sweet family adventure with Darkie Fiction

Join neo-kwaito musos Yoza Mnyanda and Katt Daddy of Darkie Fiction as they step out for family fun with their boisterous toddler, Bayethe, in Land Rover’s Discovery SUV

Juggling parenting, working from home and finding time to schedule some relaxation and quality mental health breaks all under one roof can be a difficult task. Taking pause and getting out of the house can do wonders to help the whole family connect and refresh after busier weekdays.

In this video, we follow the Darkie Fiction duo and their adorable daughter (and unofficial band member), Bayethe, on a fun family day out full of learning and exploring.

Gauteng’s James and Ethel Gray Park, proved the perfect environment to play offering a 36-hectare former bird sanctuary with a lake, city views & a large, grassy field for sports & dogs. This inner-city treasure offers all members of the family a chance to embrace nature and stretch their limbs. As parents to a bright and curious young girl, Katt and Yoza find it important to expose their daughter to the importance of conversing nature to create safe spaces for future generations to come.

Easily strapped into Land Rover’s latest streamlined, spacious, and savvy Discovery SUV model, the family set out for a day of fun and fresh air at James and Ethel Gray Park in Melrose Arch.

As for the experience of getting there in the new Land Rover, Katt Daddy had this to say, “The car seat was very easy to put in. The door opens wide enough so that it’s not a squeeze. Which is, in my experience, been the toughest thing to get a car that’s not a squeeze to actually just put the car seat in and then be able to put your upper body in and be able to connect what needs to be connected.”

Yoza Mnyanda adds that she enjoys the spacious element in the car for that extra bit of child safety. “I also like that the door handle is further. So, in her car seat, buckled up, she can’t really reach the door handle. Even though there is child lock and stuff like that, she won’t get in that habit of, like, wanting to know what the door handle does – I like the position for her.”

Darkie Fiction is a South African music duo featuring rapper Katt Daddy and songstress Yoza Mnyanda. The duo formed back in 2017 in Cape Town and have gone on to produce multiple popular tracks that blend the elements of kwaito, afro-funk, neo-soul, and hip hop all into one authentic sound. Paying homage to homegrown music, their songs, like Phude PhudeEndaweni, and more pull on those influential strings and give a sense of Mzansi nostalgia as it smoothly plays through the speakers. Their 2018 EP Sobabini: A Mzansi Evolution saw them dubbed as Apple Music South Africa’s spotlight artist for the month in August 2018. Their duo became a personal trio in 2019 when they welcomed the birth of their sweet toddler, Bayethe. As a creative family unit, they value a good family day out to take a breather from producing, creating and parenting at home.
