Job Purpose |
This post is in line with the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP), part of the DHET and Staffing South Africa's Universities Framework (SSAUF) response towards addressing challenges in the South African Higher Education system in respect of size, composition and capacity of its academic staff. The SSAUF intends to identify and nurture academic talent early in the academic development trajectory, and to support newly recruited academics to develop teaching expertise, develop research skills, including scientific publication skills. This nGAP involves the recruitment of a highly capable scholars as new academics. Appointment within the nGAP is to ensure that staff equity targets are met, with preference to black and/or women South African citizens. The successful candidate will be developed to be a future academic at CPUT capable of teaching on all the Civil Engineering Programmes and participate in a research group; with priority given to subject areas within Transportation Engineering. To be eligible for selection for this nGAP post, applicants must meet the following criteria, in addition to meeting the minimum criteria specified for the post: show interest in becoming an academic; be 40 years or younger; have a 70% pass mark for his/her Master's degree; show evidence of eligibility to undertake post-graduate study at doctoral level or post-doctoral programme; and be willing to commit to placement at the appointing university for the full 6 years of the programme. |
Minimum Requirements |
At least a Masters’ degree vertical qualification in Civil Engineering, specializing in -Transportation Engineering, -Geotechnical Engineering, -Structural Engineering and -Construction Materials. Preference will be given to Transportation Engineering. 70% pass mark for Masters’ degree; Applicants must be South African citizens who are 40 years or younger. |
Recommendation |
Lecturing/research/industry experience in Civil Engineering is required. Lecture, academic management, and early stage research track record. Familiar with the learner management system. Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa Important Notes: If not yet registered for a Doctoral degree the successful candidate must commit to registering for a Doctoral degree within 3 months of taking up the nGap appointment and to completing the Doctorate within 5 years of appointment.
