Minimum Requirements |
A minimum of a three-year tertiary qualification (NFQ 7/) and Post- Graduate Degree in Internal Auditing/Honors Degree in Internal Auditing, Accounting, LLB Degree. CIA, CISA, CA(SA) will be an added advantage. Applicants must not be serving in more than three (3) local government audit committees simultaneously. |
Recommendation |
10 years’ experience in Auditing/Accounting, Performance Management in local government. Previous experience of serving in the Audit Committee will be advantageous. Knowledge and understanding of the roles of internal and external audit, experience in IT will be added advantage. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) |
Key Performance Areas |
The Committee members will be responsible for rendering advice to the Municipal Council, the Accounting Officer, political office bearers and management staff on matters relating to internal financial control, internal audits, performance management, effective governance, compliance with the MFMA and other matters in line with the Audit Committee Charter. |
Competencies |
The preferred candidate must be an independent person, with advance Knowledge and experience in Corporate Governance and Administration, financial management & Accounting, Internal and External Audit, Information Technology, Human Resources, Risk Management practices, Performance Management, Law and Review of Annual Financial Statements. Exposure to the Local Government sector and familiarity with risk management practices. Knowledge and understanding of internal controls, major accounting and public sector reporting issues. Knowledge and understanding of and exposure to legislation/policies (MFMA/GRAP/GAAP/National Treasury Regulations and practices relevant to Local Government).). |
Remuneration |
This Audit Committee is established in terms of the Local Government: Municipal Finance Management Act, 2003 (MFMA) and members will be remunerated as per rates (tariffs) provided by National Treasury, from time to time. |
