Key Performance Areas |
-To support the MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development on all matters pertaining to Agriculture and Rural Development in the Province. - Provide strategic leadership and management to the Department in the provision of integrated agricultural development services l Facilitate the formulation and implementation of sustainable development and empowerment strategies and initiatives at the local and provincial level to meet the needs of KZN. -Promote the principles of holistic integrated development planning, co-operative governance, economics and efficiency in both in agriculture and rural development in the Province l Ensure appropriate processes, structures and policies are in place in relation to the growth of the Agriculture and Rural Development mandate. -Provide strategic management of veterinary services l Provide leadership and direction in preparation of the strategic plan to ensure that the performance and operations of the Department are geared to achieve strategic objectives. -Provide effective and efficient administrative systems l Ensure the provision of a strategic corporate support service in the Department. -Provide advice and support services to the MEC in line with the relevant legislation l Ensure sound financial management of the expenditure of the Department and manage the budget as the Accounting Officer Represent the Department on Provincial, National and International platforms -Ensure the establishment of relevant boards/ structures in line with the vision and mission of the Department. Ensure the co-ordination of effective implementation of departmental policies, programmes and projects in line with National, Provincial and Departmental priorities. Provide strategic management of all resources. To establish and manage strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders -Provide advice to the MEC on the Department's performance, operations and the realisation of the strategic plan for the Department. Remuneration |
Remuneration Salary level 16: R2 068 458.00.00 - R 2 330 121 per annum plus a 10% non-pensionable Head of Department allowance. The inclusive remuneration package includes a 30% portion which may be structured according to the individual's needs |

This appointment is subject to the signing of an employment contract with the Premier not exceeding five (5) years and an annual performance agreement with the MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development in the KwaZulu-Natal Province within three months of the date of appointment. The successful candidate will be required to undergo security clearance and to disclose financial interests in accordance with the prescribed regulations. All shortlisted candidates will be subjected to a technical exercise that intends to test the relevant technical elements of the job, the logistics of which will be communicated by the Office of the Premier. Following the interview and technical exercise, the selection panel will recommend candidates to attend a generic managerial competency assessment as prescribed by the DPSA.
Candidates recommended for appointment at the SMS level will be required to produce a Pre-entry certificate for the course offered by the National School of Government (NSG) prior to their appointment.
